How Bad is it to Lose Smoltz?

On Sunday, the Hardball Times asked Are we sure John Smoltz ages? Of course, we found out that, yes, yes he does. Smoltz is out for at least one start. He’s headed back to Atlanta to visit the doctor to find out if it’s more. Considering how well he’s been pitching, it’s a pretty big [...]

Injuries and Depth

Well we’ve got a long list of folks on the DL (7 to be exact), we’ve also got a lot of guys who have been day-to-day with various little freak nags and tweaks. Kotsay’s been sitting the last couple of games because he slept funny. Chipper hurt has back talking to reporters this morning. Yunel [...]

Was Tim Hudson’s Bad Night More Than Just a Bad Night?

Does anybody else find the description of Tim Hudson’s woes last night to be really, really eerie:
“I felt fine physically,” Hudson said. “Just one of those nights I went out there and just couldn’t get anything behind the ball. It was kind of a weird feeling. My heater [fastball] is normally a lot better than [...]

Everything is Wrong and That’s Okay

I’m not going to lie to you. I’ve been at bars with my back to the game for the last two nights. And let me tell you, I’m probably a lot happier for it. I looked up last night just long enough to see Will Ohman walk in the first of two runs. I was [...]

Yet Another Dreadfully Needed Off Day

Adding depth to the starting pitching rotation over the winter was supposed to cut down on the number of Chuck James Classics – five innings then off to the bullpen. Yet, in 12 games, we’ve already had two starters go down before recording an out and only three times has our starter gone at least [...]

Snatching Victory from the Jaws of a Closer Victory

The Braves found a way to blow another one-run game – this time by scoring two in the 9th. Tim Hudson was brilliant, again. He’s on his way to another Cy Young half-season. Unfortunately, we put some insurance on the board and won by 3, so we’ve still yet to win one of those all-important [...]

Enough with the Negative

So, I’ve been noticing a lot of hopeless negativism around the Braves-o-sphere already. It’s been a rough nine games, we’ve had a lot of bad news and some heartbreakers, and our 3-6 record puts us at tie for last in the NL East with the Nationals. And we all know that the Nationals have cooties.
But [...]

Adding to the One-Run Bandwagon and Today in Kotsay

The Braves lost another one-run game tonight to the Denver Nuggets. All five of our losses have now been in one-run games. There has been a lot of talk about this in the Braves media and on the Braves interwebs. Here are a couple of interesting facts that you may not have noticed about these [...]

Rain Out

Dear Historical Georgia Drought,
Could you not stick around through baseball season? Is that too much to ask?  All the the other teams in town have roofs to play under. I’ve seen the tarp at Turner Field this year more than I’ve seen Mike Hampton pitch.
Please come back. I miss you.
Love,
Shaun
P.S. – Alright, that’s a cheap [...]

Hampton Pulled, Shaun Humbled, Braves Lose, Weather Sucked

We get to see the pitchers do their long tossing in right field a few minutes before the start of the game. Hampton came out, did his long tossing and went back into the bullpen. They even announced him as the starting pitcher. We’ll see what the prognosis is tomorrow.
Pittsburgh 4, Atlanta 3 (10 innings.) [...]
