Say it Ain’t So, Willie
Atlanta 4, New York Mets 2. Sweep! It’s waaay too early to be ruling anybody in or out at this point, but it’s pretty obvious who’s hot and who’s not right now in the NL East. You know Willie Randolph is not going to want to answer that phone tonight.
The Mets fans finally had something to cheer about when Beltran and Delgado went back-to-back off Hudson in the second. That was all the offense they would get, though. It’s funny when you get to say things like this, but besides the long balls, Tim Hudson pitched an absolute gem. Our best outdueled Santana for the second time this season.
On Chipper
BravesNuWorld has a nice piece on Chipper and the HBP incident last night. Couldn’t agree more. Even this humble blogger has been guilty of taking Chipper for granted.
Your Daily Kotsay
#11 remembered to bring his bat today, 2-4, and he touched home once. He’ll need another day like this to get back over .300. Chasing the dream! He also made a highlight reel grab in short center to get the final out of the game for Will Ohman.
Up Next
With the Diamondbacks coming to town for four, we’re likely to see some good pitching. We get Randy Johnson on Saturday and Brandon Webb on Monday. But, what I’m really worried about is Doug Davis’ return tomorrow. It will be his first start back since having this thyroid removed due to cancer in April. That’s the kind of emotional drama that’s sure to get the Snakes fired up.
Of course, the D-Backs just got swept by the Marlins, who are apparently still in first in the NL East. I’m not sure if they’ll be invited to the postseason or not if they’re still there at the end of the season, because obviously that spot belongs to the Bravos, Mets, or Phils. Nonetheless, looking forward to a good series.
