Balks be Damned and Your Daily Kotsay

Atlanta 5, San Diego 2. Your trusty blogger resumed his vigil tonight after a harrowing bout with disease.

Talking about composure, Tim Hudson definitely lost his in the second after getting called for a balk. It didn’t look like a balk from 400 feet away, definitely looked like he was throwing to third. The video replay is pretty clear, too. Bad call, Wally Bell. Bobby Cox came in to take the ejection for Hudson and Chipper had to come to the mound to calm him later in the inning.

Of course we were playing the Padres, so they didn’t manage to take advantage and plate any additional runs. A two run bottom of the second gave him the lead and his composure back.

The Braves bats kept hitting the right way today. Mark Kotsay is on fire right now, and we all know that Section 435 loves Mark Kotsay. Of course, he’s been hitting righties well all season (.394) and his career splits have been pretty even. His putrid .182 against lefties this year appears to be an aberration.

Greg Norton got his first hit and RBI as a Brave today. He was 7 for 16 with the Mariners this season. I think the Mariners released him because he only wanted to come into the game in save situations.
