Stranded? Call AAA – Not the Braves
Miami Marlins of Miami 7, Atlanta 2. The story of tonight was our complete inability to drive in runs. 13 runners left on base. We had 12 hits to the Marlins’ 11, but could only manage to plate a pair. Not much more to say than that.
Of course, I can’t help but feel that had we not been down by 3 before we even came to bat, things might have turned out differently. We seem to hit a lot better when we’re up, not trying to force the issue, not trying to hit everything out of the park. This is something TP definitely needs to get the team to work on.
Not to blame Jeff Bennett, though. He came back and pitched 5 strong innings after getting torched for 2 HRs in the first. 6 IP, 3 ER. That’s the definition of a quality start. It takes some mental toughness to bounce back after an inning like that. Bennett may not have the best stuff, but he can hang around in the bigs on mental toughness alone.
Chris Resop, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to have either. I know some relievers can get by on heat alone, but those guys are approaching triple digits. Mid 90’s and right down the pike is the recipe for a double-digit ERA, and that’s what he’s cooking up right now.
The highlight of the night was Will Ohman striking out Luis Gonzalez, who came in to pinch hit in the 7th. He may not be in the prime of his career anymore, but it was still fun to see him come up.
