Tim Hudson’s Triumphant Return

Atlanta 7, Washington 3. Hudson returned to the mound tonight after his wonky start last week. The public address announcer referred to his performance as solid when naming him the player of the game, but I think that might be a little generous. His line looked a lot better than his pitching, going 6.2 and giving up only 1. However, he gave up 10 hits and had to pitch out of trouble in almost every inning. If he wasn’t saved by Franceour and Yunel both gunning down runners at the plate, it might have been a different ballgame. Both were running errors by the Nationals. Didn’t they get the memo about the cannons we keep in the outfield? You just don’t run on Franceour.

The good news about Hudson was that he was consistently hitting 90 and 91 with his fastball, so maybe last week was just one of those games.

So, it was an ugly win, but if you’re going to build up a little streak, I guess you have to win some ugly ones, too.

Speaking of running, it seems to me like were running a bit more this year than last year. Matt Diaz already has 2 SBs. Matt Diaz. He picked up another tonight, eventually scoring on some more quality running on a Tim Hudson bunt.

And, finally, here’s what the local MSM rag thinks we have to look forward to tomorrow night:

Smoltz: 3,000 wins

I’m guessing the night shift producers aren’t big baseball fans.
