Jair Jurrjens. Delivered.
Atlanta 6, Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles 1. This game was all about Jair Jurrjens. He was fabulous today. If this is a sign of what’s to come from Jair, he will be the anchor of our rotation for years to come.
He threw 7 strong innings, allowing only 1, and striking out 8. Of course, three of those were Andruw, so I don’t know if those count fully in the record book. I can’t say enough about his performance. He only had 2 runs of support, but pitched with confidence and poise the whole game. His command was excellent up until the last batter he faced.
Kelly Johnson had another error in the field, but he redeemed himself offensively with an HR and 3 runs. It’s good to see him getting on base. His at bats today looked more like the KJ we were used to from last year.
Tex also broke out today, going 3-4 with an HR and 3 RBIs. Looks like he’s finally coming out of his early season cold snap.
And, last but not least, the bullpen threw 2 scoreless innings today. It’s getting to the point where I’m not crossing my fingers when Blaine Boyer takes the mound. And Ohman has been great all season except for that one unfortunate outing last week in Miami. The bullpen has only given up 1 run during our 4-game winning streak. That’s a real difference maker.
Of course, we can’t go a single game without another injury. Chipper came out with a quad injury, but not after pouring another 2-3 game onto his already impressive April.
Looks like the Braves are really, really happy to be home.
