Get Out the Brooms
Nothing like facing the Nationals’ vaunted pitching staff to get your bats in order. Can’t help but feel like we need a win today to consider this a successful trip into our nation’s capital. A win today puts us back at .500 and gives us a nice little streak to ride into Miami to face the current cream of the NL East crop.
On Starting Pitching
Our 1-2-3 has so far been fabulous:
- Tim Hudson: 2-0, 2.14, 3G, 21.0 IP
- John Smoltz: 2-0, 0.82, 2G, 11.0 IP
- Tom Glavine: 0-0, 0.79, 2G, 11.1 IP
Smoltz has been more fortunate that Glavine with the success of the bullpen guys following him. Of course, the longer you go in the IP column, the more you can control your destiny in the W column. And while the combined age of Smoltz and Glavine is probably higher than the combined age of the entire readership of this blog, I don’t think 6-7 should be too much to ask out of those guys. The bullpen has been much more reliable thus far in D.C., so that bodes well for Tommy to finally notch a W. The weather is also more promising than it has been for Tommy’s first two starts.
