Jeff Bennett: Some Guy Makes the Team

I saw Jeff Bennett in his first start with Braves last September, another of the random folks who took part in the musical chairs end of the rotation last year. As he was the 86th guy to make the starting rotation, I just dubbed him Some Guy. Well, Some Guy pitched really well, I cheered on Some Guy throughout the whole game, and cursed Bobby Cox when he took Some Guy out. Needless to say, I’ve been a big fan of Some Guy ever since.

It’s been pretty much a foregone conclusion that the long reliever/spot starter job was Some Guy’s to lose. It’s nice to see he made the team. Sad to see Buddy Carlyle sent down to Richmond, he was a great story last year. But, I’d rather have a great rotation than a rotation full of great stories.

Let’s play ball!
